This statement outlines our commitment to and protocols regarding our duties under the Data Protection Act 2018.

We provide this to inform you about the collection, storage, and use of personal data when using services provided by or participating in research conducted by the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER).

Please read this statement carefully.

  1. Contact Information:
    CRER is located at 8 John Street, Glasgow. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the handling of your personal data, please contact our research team at research@crer.org.uk. If using services, you can also contact the relevant CRER service.

  2. Data Collection and Purpose:
    When you participate in CRER services and/or research, certain personal data may be collected. The purpose of collecting this data is to analyse responses, identify trends, and make informed decisions to advance racial equality in Scotland.

  3. Processing of special categories of personal data:
    When you participate in CRER services and/or research, you may be asked for special categories of personal data, such as your racial or ethnic origin and other Protected Characteristic information. In accordance with Article 9(2)(a) of the UK General Data Protection Regulation, we will only process this data with your explicit consent.

  4. Data Sharing
    Your personal data will be treated as confidential and will only be accessible to authorised personnel from CRER. CRER will not share your individually identifiable information with third parties except as required by law or with your specific consent.

  5. Data Retention and Security
    CRER will retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose stated in this Data Protection Statement and as required by applicable laws. Appropriate measures will be taken to protect against unauthorised access, loss, or alteration of your information.

  6. Rights and Voluntary Participation:
    You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, object to processing, and data portability concerning your personal data. Participation in the research conducted by CRER is voluntary, and you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time by contacting research@crer.org.uk or the relevant service.

    Should you feel that CRER is handling your data unfairly or unlawfully, please complain to CRER in the first instance by emailing research@crer.org.uk or the relevant service. You also have the right to report your concern to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Before you participate in CRER services and/or research, we will ask you to confirm that you have read and understood this Data Protection statement and consent to your personal data being processed.
