Political Shadowing Scheme - John Shadowing Neil Findlay MSP

Day One

I was very excited to start my shadowing scheme today. Indeed, I do not shadow a MSP everyday. I went to the Economy, Jobs, and Fair Work Committee and I listened the MSPs discuss the gender equality pay gap. I wrote my first motion and I attended the Health and Sport discussion with MSPs. It was an incredible first day.

Day Two

It was another amazing day in the Scottish Parliament. I am extremely happy for the opportunity that my MSP and CRER has given to me.

I attended a meeting with my MSP about alcohol, health and care, and inequalities. I took some notes and I created a simple low budget Marketing Strategy for the short run to reduce alcohol and drug consumption. I was also assigned to do research about the Edinburgh Airport flights paths.

Day Three

It was another incredible day in the Scottish Parliament. I attended First Minister´s Questions, and I took some notes about my MSP's way of delivering his speech and created a word document for him. I also attended a meeting about taxation and I delivered my research about the Edinburgh Airport flights paths as requested by my MSP.

Day Four

I went for the first time to my MSP's constituency office; I was very excited about it. I wrote four motions for him, and spoke with his marketing expert about my simple low budget Marketing Strategy for the short run to reduce alcohol and drug consumption, and he liked it! I also spoke with his caseworker about his political campaign for the local council elections. I love it.

Day Five

I went for the second time to my MSP's constituency office. The caseworker explained to me what his work involved - this was very interesting. I like the way he explained it to me. I did some research about vaporizers and wrote a draft letter for the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport. I also helped him with his political campaign for the local council elections.

Day Six

This was the last day of my Political Shadowing Scheme. I attended the Health and Sport Committee meeting, the Scottish Government debate on the “Rape Clause” and the Air Departure Tax debate. Thank you to my MSP, Councillors and CRER for this opportunity.
